Regarding Petrol, has anyone ever checked their mileage per litre?? I'd be interested in the range of efficiency experienced by others.

On a tank of 96 at appx (depending on current price for the day) $40 - $42 I
was getting appx 405km for the week.

I regularly check my fuel consumption and I am getting between 32-35mpg
(8.0-8.5 l/100km) using 91. In a combination of around town and commuting
kms. I have not checked consumption on a long trip.

I've been recording (obsessively, as I do) fuel consumption for my 89 MX5:

170.00 days
$610.85 total cost
5275.00 kilometres
3278.43 miles
558.22 litres
147.29 US Gallons
122.69 British Gallons

22.26 mpg (US)
26.72 mpg (Brit)
10.58 litres/100km
9.45 km/litre

31.03 km/day
$3.59 dollars/day

Car/driving conditions:
- manual transmission (the only way to go)
- aircon, used for about 10 minutes per month, or less
- pwr steering
- pwr windows
- driving with top down, 9 times out of 10 (even at 3am in winter)
- most trips about 10km
- driving like a teenager (but maintaining better following distances)

(I need to drive like a teenager because my rear wheels have much more
tread than the front & they need wearing to match. This is my fault for
not rotating the tyres early enough)

I could almost feel motivated to try some more sedate driving, especially
with the current price of petrol.

Some people, more persistently obsessive than myself, have recorded their
mileage for 6.5years and 132404 miles! Have a look here, if you're
interested in such things:

http://socalm.org/MPG.html

Just in case you're vaguely curious, but can't be bothered looking at the
page, they got an average of 31 mpg.

This joker is in a class of his own!
On his scale of obsessive behaviour you are a rank beginner.

I think the biggest factor that affects fuel consumption is how you drive.

A few weeks ago my wife (Morven) and I drove from Whitianga (in the
Coremandel) to Auckland. I got 312Kms to the tank, but Morven got 420Kms.
The difference was that Morven had a nervous passenger in her MX5 and so
drove conservatively , where as I was on my own in mine and had lots of fun
getting home three quarters of an hour before them. I probably spent an hour
in the 6000-7000 RPM range.

Chic

Which clearly indicates the significant difference in mileage that can be achieved ------- no wonder my mileage is low!
