92/93 MX5s

Post by Barry O'Carroll » Fri Sep 08, 2000 9:34 pm

Have been following the used MX5 market in Christchurch for a couple of
months now. Plenty of 89/90/91 models around but have never seen a 92 or 93
advertised in that time. Is there not many of these year models in the
country or just not many in Canterbury?

TIA...Barry

92/93 MX5s

Earlier in the year I was looking to replace my 90 with a 92 or 93 no
powersteering and no electric windows and like you found few 92's and even
less with the specs I wanted. I was told by a Wgtn dealer that one of the
reasons for the few 92+ cars and the proponderance of 89/90/91 cars was the
NZ$. It was too weak. Other countries with the stronger currencies were able
to purchase the more recent models, leaving NZ importers with the cheaper,
older cars or less well maintained. Whether that is the full story or not I
don't know but it does have a ring of plausibility about it.

if anybody is looking for a 92 MX5 a former club member is selling
hers, she bought it new in 92 and has very low K's so it has no power
windows/steering as that is how NZ cars came here in the 1600 form,
no idea of the price, but i can find out her phone No if anybody is
interested.

Of course I wouldn't overlook the simple fact that the reason why there are
so few middle-aged MX5s on the market is that owners just don't want to sell
them. It's only when the hood starts to need attention and the paintwork had
dulled after about 10 yrs that people start to think about selling.
