Soft top adjustment

Post by Phil Dyer » Tue Dec 11, 2001 7:51 am

I Noticed when it rained last that water was being sucked in through the
rubber join half way across the top of my side window and dripping onto my
sleeve. The window comes up to the top of the guide so I guess it doesn't
need to go higher, but looking on the outsided I noticed there is more rubber
showing above the window on the drivers side to the passenger side window .
Is it possible to lower the roof height by say 5mm on one side?

This may sound silly but are you sure the driver's window was fully raised?
Sometimes my power windows do not go the full distance when I raise them with
the soft top in place. They can stop about 5mm down and will also leak when
raining.

Yes it was raised to the top of the front guide. I did try running it up
and down while getting wet to stop the problem. I notice the rubber seal
is not meeting properly in the centre of the window. I tried raising and
lowing the top (when I got home) to see if it would sit right, but no luck

For reference, my car had this problem, and after my accident & during the
rebuild I had a new roof fitted, and decided to replace the rubber seals
around the top of the window at the same time. Guess what those seals cost?
About $400!!! It doesn't leak any more though.

I get the same symptom sometimes. No evidence of any misfits.

It's worse when the roof clamp handle fills with water. Next time you drop
the roof from inside, you get a sleeveful.

I found that you could work the seals together a little, and that combined
with a bit of silicone spray on the seals every few weeks seemed to keep the
roof from leaking.
