re[2]: Brake Pads

Post by Mathew » Wed Nov 28, 2001 11:28 am

Thanks for the tip Darryl. Steve at 0800 BRAKES was very good to talk to. He recommended Mintex pads, which are a high performance pad that he guarantees will work well when cold. The only negative is that they emit a lot of brake dust, but I am told you'll get this with all performance pads. Does anyone out there have experience with Mintex products? I mentioned Metal king pads (which he tells me are made by the same parent company as Mintex) and he told me to stay away from them as although they are better than the stock pads, they are not really a performance pad and really only good for larger commercial vehicles?

I have mintex pads in my racer. I brought these from 0800 Brakes. They
bonded and riveted the friction material onto the old pad plates I supplied.
I can't remember why they needed the blanks, it may have been an out of
stock issue. They are brilliant, will do hard stops all day from 180kph with
no fade. The pedal gets a little softer, but the brakes are always there.
The pedal needs a bit more pressure and are quite noisy when cold. They have
lasted approx 600k of competition and 1500 to 2000 road k's which is to be
expected. Discs still look OK. They make a hell of a mess of the wheels, but
mine are black so not an issue. I had metal kings which seemed OK, but I
will get Mintex again. Price from memory was $120??? for fronts.
