Technical info

Hi, I am a new member, my name is Alan Barclay.
While serviceng my Eunos Roadster At the weekend I found that the hand brake
on the RH side does not work. I took the caliper off but without stripping it,
cannot find what is wrong. It appears that everything besides tha actuating
cam( I assume there is a cam of some sort) is OK. I need some information on
the brake system please.
Also, Where is the best place to get a Workshop Manual.
Thanks for your help.
Regards
Alan

Alan,

Several places stock either or both the Haines MX-5 Manual, or Rod's Miata
Enthusiast Handbook and Workshop Manual (two versions, one for 1.6 and one
for 1.8).

I prefer the Rod's... but both are good.

I got mine at Ecurie Lierve in Newmarket (Auck). Techbooks has them too. I
believe Fazzaz has them in Christchurch (You didn't say where you are?) Or you
can link through to Flying Pig from the club website, order them online, and
the club gets a small percentage...

The hand-brake has a few common problems...

The slide-pins lose their lubrication, and the thing seizes up... either
sticking on or off... Also, there's a 14mm bolt head on the back of the
calliper, that removing reveals a 4mm hex (allen) screw that adjust the
calliper in and out to account for pad-wear (ie. its NOT self adjusting). And
less common, the lever on the back of the calliper that is operated by the
hand-brake cable seizes... I've not had personal experience of this one, but
hopefully WD-40/CRC and some force may free it up?

Good luck,

Fletch.

Actually - the club doesn't get any percentage - the member gets the discount
