header removal

Post by jeff w » Tue Oct 02, 2001 5:00 pm

hi all

anyone successfully removed the stock header ? I've
had a couple of cracks at it but can't seem to budge
the bolt which attaches it to the transmission - it
seems to be an odd size somewhere between 12mm and
13mm ?!

TIA,
Jeff

Its a 12mm Jeff and a bugger to shift. I used a ring spanner with pipe over it for leverage. Its hard to get at thats the problem. Ross.

I removed mine years ago...

I cant remember too much about the transmission mount, but it was a
standard metric size... probably 12 or 14mm as they are common
sizes... 13mm is much less common on japanese cars.

Be aware that the nuts are welded to the mount, and nothing will get
them off... you need to remove the bolts from the other side...

Also a 24 hour pre-dose of WD-40 or CRC will make a big difference...
if you dont have 24 hours, even fifteen mins is better than no wait at
all...

Good Luck,

Fletch.

P.S. 8mm , 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 17mm, 19mm, 21mm, 23mm, and 24mm will do
99% of the bolts on your MX-5 10-19 will do 95%.
