MX5 Softtop roof prices and fixing

Post by Mathew Gerrard » Sun Sep 16, 2001 8:44 pm

I am about to buy an MX5 and the soft top roof is in pretty bad shape. Does
anyone know how much a new roof will cost of does anyone know a quick way af
cleaning the faded and discoloured rear window??? Also is there a way to
fix the cracks appearing in the roof and the slits that have already appered.

regards
mathew

Mathew,
a new roof will cost you between $1000 and $1200. Personally I don't think
it's worth trying to fix cracks and slits as I haven't found anything that is
effective without looking a mess. The back window can be cleaned slightly with
plastic polish, but it won't help much.

I'd point out to the vendor that the car needs a new roof and negotiate a
discount. If you are buying from a dealer I'd insist on a new roof being
fitted before purchase.

Cheers

Bought a roof for a friends car recently and we fitted it on their 91. I've
got lots of pics - I'll do a write up as soon as I get time. Roof was Robbins
brand, no rain rail, $898.00+gst. Fitting wasn't too bad - took us a while,
but the next one will be much easier...

There are a few bad tops out there! I know of two down here (incl. mine)
Perhaps the club could do a top deal similar to the Koni's?
