I'm looking at installing a turbo + new exhaust system on my '91 mx5. I would
like to hear from anyone else who has added a turbo too find out the best way
to go, tricks and hints etc.
Any advice would be welcome.
I'm also interested in knowing if there are any decent body kits available in
NZ for MX5's.
Thanks for your help

I know of an outfit in ChCh that makes some nice bits, and good quality work,
I'll see if I can find a contact if its of any use.
The Service Manager at Canterbury Mazda knows a thing or two about turboing an
Mx, told me it was as easy as, I cant remember the details, but apparently the
323 Turbo rods and pistons, ++++ a heap of other bits and pieces, give him a
call.

Scott,
Sign up for the miatapower list at www.miatapower.net and gain some ideas
there. Also have a look at the miataforum on www.miata.net
In this part of the world the AVO turbo kit from Oz is probably the best bet.
You shouldn't have to do any significant work to your engines internals, just
bolt the appropriate kit on and tune.

This depends on how much money you want to throw at it, if you want to go
above 7lb-8lb of boost you will need to change your clutch, then there is the
diff, and you need to improve your suspension and tyres otherwise you will
have traction problems, then there's the brakes, it goes on and on, no
performance comes cheap done correctly, the only way to go.
As for a body kit, are you looking at NZ made, somebody has already mentioned
a Christchuch company, or there is a Racing Beat kit from the USA, Rotary
Power in Auckland are the importers, they also stock the Turbo kits.

I can supply you a Trust complete bolt on Turbo kit (low pressure). This
includes a cast manifold, Pipe work, TD-04H Turbo, Filter, all clamps and
bolts etc required to fit. All this for around $3100. I could also supply you
with an intercooler, and an after market ECU (MiataLink $1500, Microtech
$1900, Haltech from $1275) or an extra injector controller etc from $765. The
AVO kits are available from around $4500 to around $5200 depending on how much
power you want and what model car you have..
I can also get the Racing Beat products also.
Just some ideas.
