Tyres again

Post by Clive Granger » Mon Apr 09, 2001 11:00 pm

I need some higher performance tyres for the 5 and have narrowed it down
to 3. I would like some opinions/ comment, particularly if you have any
experience with the tyres. I have the stock 14x6" 1994 wheels and will be
keeping them for the foreseeable future and these tyres are supplied in
suitable sizing (185/60 R14). The options are:
1. Yokohama A250
2. Bridgestone RE711
3. Pirelli P5000 Drago

I would be particularly interested in comments on the RE711 as these are
ones I am leaning towards. Does anyone know how they go in the wet?
The A250s sound good as well, though quite noisy I hear. I don't know
anything about the Pirellis.

Thanks,
Clive.

Clive,

I have the RE-711s. They are a good tyre. I like them. I have driven
them in the wet, and they felt good, but I haven't pushed them too
hard in those conditions.

I think they are at least the equal, if not slightly better than the
Toyo T1+ that I previously had. (which have now been replaced by the
T1-S). I would have also recommended you consider this tyre, but I
don't think its available in 14" sizes...

Fletch.

Clive; Although these are not on your list I run Goodyear nct 3 tyres and
find therm excellent. They are quiet and have excellent feedback on the
track or road. The wear rate is very acceptable.Ross

If they are anything like my 710s (I suspect probably better if anything)
they are superb wet weather tyres. I've had 3 sets of 710s. How much are
they in 14"?

A couple of places have quoted $210 per wheel on the car. One placed quoted
$225. This is for a 185/60 R14 RE711.
