not officially, but my guess is helmets are not required. I doubt anyone
will be wearing them, and I think the danger of a rollover or damaging
accident at this event would be miniscule. Helmets are always optional
however :) Fletcher and Brett will know for sure.

yeah - I've been meaning to talk with you about the skid marks in my
driveway...

no ignorance here - I suspect there are a lot of drivers (including club
members) who have no idea.

Peter gave a good description... but pictures are worth lots more than words
apparently so for a tarmac gymkhana see
http://www.mx5club.org.nz/events/200800 ... _gymkhana/

Grass is messier, but much better on tyre/car wear (if you are worried about
that sort of thing!)
Chic L has kindly supplied 2 quick MPG movie clips of part of a previous
grass gymkhana. Download them from
ftp://www.mx5club.org.nz/pub/chic_grass_gymkhana1.mpg (about 1.4 Meg)
ftp://www.mx5club.org.nz/pub/chic_grass_gymkhana2.mpg (also 1.4M)

We have lots of photos of the recent grass gymkhana in Otago, but you'll
have to wait for Top Down mag to see those.
There was also some grass stuff at the driver training day in Taupo a while
ago - a few pics here
http://www.mx5club.org.nz/events/281000_taupo_training/

These gymkhana events are a really good way to learn how to drive the car to
its limits safely. It is only mildly competitive, so most people just try
and beat their own times to get better. They are GREAT fun & are for
drivers of any ability.

Motorkhana is just what the Auckland Car Club calls them. Different
countries/clubs different names.

Tarmac gymkhanas are a bit like Autocross they do in the US - except
autocross is usually on a much bigger course, and more competitive. Want to
see an autocross?
ftp://www.mx5club.org.nz/pub/AutoX.mpg
10 points for guessing correctly who this is (and no points if you're that
person!)

Details of this weekends grass gymkhana are at
http://www.mx5club.org.nz/events/northern/

Motorsport NZ decided sometime ago to rename Gymkhana as Motorkhana to avoid any confusion with horse gymkhana events - only trouble is they seem to have caused even more confusion

Thanks Sam. Interestingly enough (or not probably) my email spellchecker
picks up Gymkhana and Motorkhana as OK - but not Motorsport.

So those who went on Sat - How was it??!!
