MP3s in your car?

Gary-
did you ever track down those Aiwa CDC-MP3 players? Sound Around in Swanson, Auckland are "specialling" them at $999.00,
free installation. Normal retail "$1200.00".

Oh yes, a couple of guys at work have them installed. I might be able to do
a special deal for anyone who wants one, but you'd need to email me
privately.

just seen it in the Hot 4's 2001 Yearbook, and agree cant find it on the net,
rang Sony and they said they are releasing a new line in a month or so so
might be included in the roll-out then
but no confirmation otherwise

Todays Herald had this comment about the Sony MP3 Player. I still can't find
it on the web though. Has anyone else found it?

"Mark Christensen of Auckland car audio specialist has just installed the
first in-dash CD MP3 unit from Sony at $1099. There's also a similar product
on the market from Kenwood for $1699. "

Aiwa then Kenwood started the 'MP3 from a CD head unit' thing, Pioneer,
Alpine and Clarion are all seem to be releasing similar players at present.

see here for the info on all sorts of car mp3 players with reviews
http://hardware.mp3.com/hardware/featured/carplayers/

The Sony one isn't reviewed here and I cannot find more info on it. Event
an MSNBC article on its release seems to have been pulled.

Nobody in the car audio forums seem to know anything about the Sony unit,
although many people seem to think one has been released. I am told that
Aiwa are a sister company of Sony - is it possible that this Sony unit is a
rebadged Aiwa? The Aiwa unit has been around for a while, although I
believe the Kenwood one is markedly better.

Maybe NZ is a test market for it? We are a test market for lots of other
products, so it would make sense...

mp3car.com has a very active forum - someone posted this last month, but no
response so far
