Hi zorruno ,
I'm new to this and not quite sure how to go about it
I have bought a 1990 Mazda Mx5 roadster, It has a new Philips car stereo
fitted but there was no manual with it. It has speakers in the door panels and
in the head rest's,but i do not know how to get the head rest ones to go,Ihave
been told by a car audio shop that they are not worth having and to just stick
to the ones in the door panels.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
I would like to know abit more about your club as i am interested in joining.
I am in Ch-Ch,looking forward to your reply Kevin.

Hi Kevin,

The headrest speakers are very definitely worth having, they make a huge
difference especially when you are driving with the top down. As far making
them go, if it has been wired up correctly, they should work with the
Front-Rear Fader control on your stereo. You may need to pull the stereo out
to check the wiring, but firstly check under the seats as there is a plug
there for the wires coming out of the seats and going under the carpet to the
stereo. I am in Chch and would be happy to come around and have a look if you
want a hand.

Kevin - I have a 94 Mx 5 and have recently put in some 3.5" Blaupunkt speakers
(about $130 Au a pair) - had a little bit of cutting of the foam in the head
rests to do (no problem) a few holes to drill in the fibre glass headrest cover
(no problem), ran the wires down through the back of the seats (no problem ... a
coat hanger to pull the wires through) and hooked them up to the wiring harness
under each seat... didn't have the proper connecter so I soldered the wires
onto the ends of paper clips, trimmed them, and jammed them into the connecter
under the seats and then taped them up. No need to remove seats or carpets and
the sound is very good... I was sceptical about spending $260 Au on speakers but
am very much impressed. Concensus amongst fellow Melbourne MX5 club members is
that the standard Mazda speakers are very poor indeed... I'm glad to have gone
with the Blaupunkt which after all are about the same price as the Mazda
supplied speakers. Good luck! I understand that on early cars the factory
wiring into the harness under the seat maybe a problem not so on mine.

I'd never buy audio equipment from a car manufacturer. It would be like
buying an aftermarket ECU from Micr*soft

Phil - ok if we put this in the review section on the website? What model
were they?
