Brakes - small " W " shaped clips attached between
And I had a number of rear sets made up by a spring maker locally copied
from the original - my car was missing them.

It was I who wrote that artical.
They are not essential.
The brakes still stop the car, they are still safe, and I've not had
any on my car for several years, and they dont rattle.
I concede that your brakes may rattle without them. This is merely
annoying, it does not affect the safety of the vehicle, which is the
usual concern when talking about "brake problems".
Fletch.

I would not issue a WOF to a vehcle without these clips as the brakes have
been altered from manufacturers design. Ian

Really?
Most aftermarket pads, even the ones sold by Mazda, dont even have the
holes for them...
We're not talking about the stainless clips that stop the pads
rattling in the direction of disk rotation... They are fairly
important. Just the ones that spread the pads apart.. away from the
disk surface.
Obviously, I'm only a home mechanic, not a proffesional, and will
defer to your knowledge, but it just doesnt seem that important, and I
certainly cant see how its a saftey issue?
