HKS filters

Post by Matt Gunn » Tue Jan 09, 2001 11:11 am

Hi all

The boss asked yesterday about HKS super mega flow filters. Thanks to those
who replied to our question. (I do realise they are cleanable , but not
when they are knackered) . Seems like we have located a supplier.

Question - Those of you who run with an HKS system , did you install the
system yourself and what sort of difference has it made ? .Do you know what
power increase the injtake has made ? . Have you modified your exhaust ? we
have increased our capacity to expell exhaust with larger pipes (2inch pipe
into 2 1/2 inch stainless muffler output (sounds much better although quite
hard to take for long periods of time, can be very peircing on the ear
drums at certain rev ranges.).

The other useful mod for the HKS is to isolate the intake from the
manifold . This allows much cooler air in and therefore the posibility of
more power. At this stage I have not done this but have read excellent
reports from subaru owners who are running similar systems. Apparently this
is more critical with an after market set of extracters because certain
brands will bring the intake closer to the heat , but surely would be
benificial with the factory set. Am interested in any news from someone who
has installed some sort of heat shield.

Look forward to any replys.

cheers

Matt

Matt,

Intake power increase... mine measured about 4-5hp, BUT that was with the
airflow meter removed at the same time, and I understand that is a major
restriction... by itself I would guess only a little better than the
standard filter.

HKS filters

Hi all

Thought you might be interested in the economics of a good search on the
internet , and not listening to all the "experts" around.

Last week I was searching for a replacment filter for an HKS system. You
may have seen the letter on the list.

I mentioned that I had sourced one from the US and was proptly advised that
seeing HKS was a Japanese made part it was a very round about way to buy
one. Surely it is BUT

compare this

1)
Locally sourced filter $87 or $75 (dependant on size) plus GST plus
freight. (this is from a guy who imports direct from HKS in Japan).

2)
USA sourced filter US$13 plus US$27 freight (frieght is a fixed cost so
extra filters can be ordered at no extra freight cost.)
Now find someone else who would like to buy a filter also , suggest that
you buy two each and share the cost , and you end up with two filters
(years and years of travel taken care of) for the price of one.

In a round about sort of way it makes good $cents , would'nt you agree.

I'm all for supporting local business , when it's competitive.

Have a great day

hope to race you soon.

Cheers

Matt
