I know I sound like an advert for mx5mart, but I was just there last
weekend and Ross has replacement ashtray lid that replaces the ashtray
lid and slider with a one piece item that hinges up.It lets you use the
whole ashtray for storage, and get the items out again ;-)

Grant. All that sun might be getting to you! Seriously you are to be
commended for best use of a cheap whare-house item to improve your
mx. If I can find one at the local I may well follow suit (given that I
broke tha cover off my ashtray trying to retrieve my garage door opener
from within.) Any photos? (of the clock as opposed to any photos in
general)

P.S. any other good uses for a redundant and broken ashtray assembly
besides a drink holder?

What a good idea. Now all we need is something to stop all the papers, maps
etc on the passenger seat from blowing away - or am I the only person so
conditioned by years of saloons that I have great difficulty remembering not
to do this? There should be an add-on seat bottom cover with pockets for A4,
A5, and DLE maps - even with a clear plastic section like I've seen on private
pilot's trousers. Maybe that could be your next project, Grant?

Thanks for the advice re the wind deflector, Charles & Morvern - that and the
bars are on the shopping list for when I get some time (January, I think)

I've finally learned to put my loose papers in a small black zip up satchel.
If I'm in a hurry (ie too lazy to put the papers in the satchel), then put the
papers on the seat and place the satchel on top. Thermal fax paper has a habit
of sliding out and blowing away though. Must get a plain paper fax.
