Good mechanic

Have just had my 5 seen to by Oxton Motors in Grafton and I was
very impressed indeed. They took a lot of time to talk to me about
what was happening and seemed very knowledgeable and
trustworthy. eg they found spacers on the rear wheels and wouldn't
put them back on but accidentally left them in the car in case I
might want to!

Can anyone shed any light on that? They are obviously purpose
built spacers (but general purpose fitting) around 5mm thick which
increase the rear track. Must have been fitted in Japan by previous
owner.

They gave me a list of things they think also need doing - bushes,
shocks, etc - and explained that they like to concentrate on making
a car safe the first time they see it, and not to make the first bill too
huge by recommending other stuff too!

It's best to leave them off, typical 'ricer' add-on. No pro's to having them,
just con's, eg, prematurely worn bearings

technically they will have these advantages -
- wider track = less body roll
- more room to clear big aftermarket brakes

... but unless you're racing, I'd agree that it'd just be for looks. Postings on the miataforum suggest that bearing wear isn't an issue though.

Yeah, 10mm, that's up there with go-faster stripes.
