Thanks to whoever recently put up a link to the miata.net forum, which is full
of fascinating info (imagine a miata converted to twin motorcycle engines,
0-100kph in 2.7 sec...not actually done I don't think but apparently possible
with a kit from www.zcars.org.uk )
Anyway, I'm impressed by reports of Meguires paint restoration/ cleaning/
waxing system, and wonder if anyone here has direct experience with it; have
seen on sale at K-mart of all places in Auckland. Quite expensive, I think
from memory not much change out of $100 for the 'system'. Have previously
commented about the coloured Turtle wax and it seemed others' experience was
similarly disappointing to mine so I will give this stuff a go and let you all
know how it turns out. The other product mentioned was 'Zaino" range, have
not seen this in NZ, anyone used it?
Thanks.

I use a similar - Mothers 3 stage system which is likewise about $100 and it
looks good as anyone who has seen mine on club outings will tell U - however
I'm a bit of a fanatic and wash it every week & polish it about every 2- 3
months
Theres not many polishes I haven't tried - I have found different cars / paint
jobs seem to suit different systems.
The colored polishes will hide small scratches but this aspect does not last
long and they are very messy

I've been using the Meguires system for about 2 years and it does a great
job.My paint work was in good condition so
I only use the polish and wax.I do one coat of the polish & 2 coats of the
wax.I was doing it every 3 months but find it still looks good after 4 so
thats when I now do it.After washing the car it takes me about 4 hours to do
and that includes the hardtop.
One thing Ive found is to not let the polish dry or you end up with a steaky
look.Do one panel at a time an take off before
it dries.Do the opposite with the wax.You can do half the car and let it dry
well before taking off.I find one bottle of wax is good for
about 4 applications and the polish about 6 which puts the cost into
perspective.
Cheers

I have used Meguiars for a couple of years and also did their training
course (to help write a magazine article), I have been very impressed with
the results - one of the tricks is that you only need small quantities to
get great results - if you are only getting four polishes from a bottle on
an MX5 you are using way too much and is partly why you get residue, make
sure the panels are not hot (don't do in sun) and don't leave on too long -
best to only do a couple of panels at a time. Despite the three steps it is
quite fast as if you use small quantities it wipes off quickly. They said
that my car had "neglected paint" on the course (it was my 4WD not the MX5)
and the result was great. There was an MX5 there at the same time - a used
import with faded paint and again the results were impressive.
