GTX-MX5

Post by milfordautoelectrical » Tue Apr 23, 2002 8:15 pm

Hi everyone,

Im the elusive owner of GTX-MX5. Those plates will be changed to 11 SEC
once the transformation is complete. I live and work on the shore and I
love racing people especially guys in their poxy V8's who think they are the
s hit. I love to see the look on their faces when they get blown away by a
"hair-dressers car" (I know, I know, none of us like that saying)

Anyway I bought the car about 2 years ago with the sole intention of
modifing the snot out of it. Plans for the car were originaly an SR20DET
from a 200SX, but I wanted to keep it all Mazda, because after all, Mazda
rocks!

So instead I bought a Mazda Familia GT-X 1800 engine and a 1996 Mazda MX-5
1800 engine and box. I rebuilt the engine using the GT-X rods, pistons,
head, cams and turbo. The computer is a Link Plus with launch control and
antilag. Boost is set at a very mild 8psi running through a VR4 intercooler.

Some initial testing proved the car to be very very fast. Because of the
fact that the MX-5 is about 3-400 Kg lighter than most 4WD performance cars
means that I can take down some fairly serious cars like: EVO 1,2,3' s,
GTS-t's, Legacy B4's, and yup I can take down V8's. The proud owner of a
brand new VX HSV was beaten, and yes he was trying. I bet that incident wont
make it to the pub with his mates.

The future plans are to strip the car down again and use Mazda Familia GT-R
pistons, rods, head, cams, T3/T4 turbo running 18psi, external wastegate,
RX-7 LSD, and NOS.

I am building the car to run 11' s and I think it will do it, and im sick of
people telling me I cant do it.

The car may even be finnished for the Four and Rotary Nationals in Oct, so
that will be a good outing for it.

Anyway, any questions or input is welcome,

Steve

Good on you Steve,
Show them what a hairdressers car can do. If you want info on a home built
water/methanol injection set-up, give me a call on 09 4822056 evenings.
