BSP conversion lights

Is it legal to have these lights fitted to replace the existing round ones.
I had the idea of buying four small lights and getting them fitted rather
than buying the actual kit. I really think these look neat. I cant see why
it should be a problem. Also one other thing. Do MX5 owners leave their soft
top up or down when they take it for a WOF? Does it make any difference?

Mine just passed its WOF last week and I left the top down, but there was
another BRG there with its top up. I don't think it matters unless your
window is scuffed, I think it can fail on this - therefore leave the top
down...
