1.8 Transplant

Has any one done a 1.8 into a 1.6 transplant or know of some one who has ?

I dont know if anyone has done it in NZ, but theres a pretty good write-up in
the garage area of www.miata.net and also another at www.solomiata.com

Mostly a straight forward swap, you'll want to keep the 1.6 ECU and wiring
harness, but use the injectors from the 1.8

1.8's have a different throttle position sensor that the 1.6 ECU cant handle,
so you need to transfer the 1.6 throttle-body onto the new engine, and a
couple of the bolt holes dont line up so you need to do some drilling or make
an adaptor plate. (this is far easier than trying to transfer the 1.8 ECU and
wiring loom into your car).

I think thats about it, but check the websites I mentioned for finer
details...

You'll end up with a car that is even faster than the newer ones due to the
lighter weight and higher diff ratio.
