Gear shift suddenly smoother? Should I be concerned

Post by Alexandre » Tue Mar 20, 2018 12:33 pm

Hi everyone,

I have had an mx-5 roadster (2006) for the last 6 months and as of last week when changing gear (especially 1-4 and reverse where I do not need to press it down anymore before putting it in) I encounter 0 resistance from the gearbox while I always had to put some kind of effort into it.

It makes no noise and the car goes mint, I am however a bit suspect as to how this would just happen. Could this be a symptom of something wrong with the gearbox? Should I keep an eye on it?

Did anyone have a similar experience?

Any thoughts are appreciated.
Thank you :).

I can't think why it should suddenly get smoother, but it doesn't seem like anything to worry about.
