Post by neednewcar » Tue Mar 08, 2016 10:18 pm

hey guys,

newbie here. i realise this topic is probably posted a lot but i couldnt find it in the forum search.
anyway hoping someone might be able to tell me what the going rate is for a tidy, mechanically sound, stock na. not too fussed on 1.6/1.8etc and willing to wait it out a while. in auckland btw.

wheres the best place to look... trade me, here, other sites? what kind of kms can i be expecting (and not be worried about)? thanks :D

My first came out of Wellington. MINT Stock 1.6 na with a big rad, adjusties, hardtop 230kms and I got it as part trade towards another car I had (owes me 3 on paper), and then put some big brakes in, and when I look at selling it, I will be wanting about 5 for it (buyer already lined up)

My second came from Chch, and is a 1.8 turbo na 30k since motor rebuild with forged internals, adjusties, mans roll cage and cost me 8600. I have since put another 1000 into it. Equivalent/lower cars are on trademe for 12-14k.

So, after all that and always surfing trademe here is what I see

2-3 low end high k's
3-4 low k's/
4-5 special editions
5-6 any with hardtop
6-7 low as shit (ride height) ones
7-8 well made modified ones
10+ turbo.

Papamoeziz has it generally right.
If you don't mind waiting, then prices will come down after Summer has ended.

Yep Papamoeziz has the right idea.

Some bargains can be had if you hunt around on the Facebook groups for long enough. I picked up a blue 90' 1.6 NA for 2k a few months ago, done 250,000 k's. Little rough around the edges but a good buy nonetheless.

Then I got lucky and bought a 93' 1.8 NA for 3k just a month ago, hardtop and a few other goodies.

Don't be too disheartened by some of the dreamers on TradeMe, you'll honestly find some more realistic prices on the forum or the NZMX5 facebook group.

:P I pulled cash out straight away and was a pushy prick lol, didn't want to miss out on the deal. It does need the driveshaft replaced/rebuilt, which is proving to be painful to find a 1.8 one..

You would be very lucky to get one with so little ks on it, and they'd probably be asking a fortune for it if there was. Not that it would be worth it. The rotating/reciprocating parts in an MX5 take ages to wear out, so medium ks is not an issue, and things like bushes on a car that old will need replacing due to age not wear.
