Wee1 Classic Japanese In Car - Taupo Race 1

Post by Mad Kiwi » Tue Jan 19, 2016 10:33 am

Have Wee1 up and running again very nicely, Huge thanks to 2low2c and Jarred at Megasquirt.

This is the first outing with the new Garrett GT28RS "Disco Potato" turbo and low mount manifold.

I am really pleased to find it runs surprisingly well on the 1600 motor, was concerned about that.

As we are going to Leadfoot competing in early February I was very reluctant to run full boost (15psi) so left it on waste gate (10psi) except for a couple of key moments.

I had factored being semi gentle on the motor but didn't factor being driven in to as what happened in race 2 and having significant panel damage all up the left side of the car...so, great that it is still running, stink that I have 2 weeks to have it panel beaten and repainted AND re stickered back in presentable condition for the Leadfoot Festival.

This is race 1 from Wee1's perspective.

After I make a mistake on a gear change and had the rev limit set wrong he catches me around 6 minutes in....

and the same race from the car behind, a Honda Civic with a B18c motor.

and this is race 2.

Adam is a top guy with an extremely light and quick B18c powered CRX that I dice with often. He is a great driver but makes a big mistake trying to overtake me from way back. So far back that when I looked, I thought he wouldn't even make the effort.....

I left space in case he did and then once he did, left a bit more space.

Sadly his overtake (dive bomb!) ended badly when he locked up the fronts with too much speed....He was very apologetic and really it is just racing.

Was mostly gutted to have to try and get Wee1 panel beaten in time for leadfoot (not to mention the unexpected cost).

my perspective.

and the view from the car behind Adam, a mitsi evo powered Charade!!!

collision at approx 7.50 minutes.

However, collision aside, was great fun racing in the Classic Japanese series as usual.

Hopefully be able to beat my 58.09 time at leadfoot and show some in car footage in a couple of weeks.....and unlike last year, without hitting anything this time!

Good to meet you and have a chat at Hamilton Gardens. Hope you have it sorted and keep it straight at Leadfoot!
