What engine does this car have?

Post by eZ_Harry » Sun Nov 01, 2015 5:26 pm

Hello all,

I am currently facing a dilemma with a roadster I am very close to making an offer on, it is a 1993 1.6L. The body has 280,000km's however the engine was swapped in 2008 so it has only 160,000km's on it (there are full receipts for the work). Unfortunately on the service history the only information I am told about the replacement engine is the KM's it had at the time. My concern is that the replacement engine is one of the engines that had only 90HP and not the 115HP that the car had with its stock engine. I have attached a picture of the engine bey and if you know any way of determing the engine type I am more than happy to ask the owner.

Many thanks,

It looks like a standard, gutless B6. I'd only heard of the detuned 1.6s in the UK market (why?!?!?!).

Apparently the reason Mazda did it was so insurance for the car would be cheaper. It was only the 1995-1998 1.6s, which weren't sold in other markets. The NB6 was not sold in the US (thus the internet is devoid of useful information about them) but this makes about 120hp.

Remember these figures are all factory hp at the flywheel. The car probably makes something around 60hp at the wheels like everyone elses. Give it a drive, give another few a drive. If they feel the same buy it.
