I would love to take one for a test drive but I cant ever see myself owning one. Here in NZ they will most likely be noticeably higher but that doesn't surprise me, I guess I am acclimatised to us having to pay through the nose.

How the hell does the price go from $US24,790 to mid 40's here?
That's just NZ Franchise Dealers profiteering, and then they will bitch like
hell about Japanese imports, hell wonder why?

biff, I'm pretty sure that's the NC, with all its excess and a 2.0L engine.

Not that I'm expecting much or any cheaper for a ND MX5...

Its all about volume. When you are selling to a market with hundreds of millions of people, you will sell more cars so can make a lower profit on each one. When you are selling to a market of 4 million you will sell stuff all so hike the profit margin to sell even less

there is absolutly ZERO justification for the ND being over about 35-36K here in nz. the aus and nz spec cars will be the same and even come on the same boat. if its over 40k in nz then they are just screwing themselves out of sales.

that price is for the old NC model retractable hard top which are much pricier than the ND will be. IIRC the Aus spec NC PRHT was high 40's also, so a 32K AUD SHOULD mean the NZ ND is well under 40K.

there are going to be a LOT of 2011+ NC owners who are going to take a bath on depreciation... imagine owning a 2013+ NC which is gonna drop 20 grand in value overnight.

Just an observation...NZ MX5's are generally all top spec, unlike some other markets where the intro price is smaller engine, smaller wheels, fewer gears in the box etc etc..
NZ new cars will include 3 yrs servicing...
US prices often have 'destination/dealer charges' added to their suggested retail prices...and these can be quite substantial.

Destination charges are about 750usd and they charge anywhere from 100 to 400 for dealer prep fees. even so these new nd's are pretty standard spec globzlly

Mazda USA sell the PRHT NC for $28k (~$40k NZD). The same models are in the mid 50s in Australia and NZ.
