fixed back seats. legal?

Post by warrior » Sun Oct 12, 2014 3:18 pm

I have put two fixed back seats in my car. They are on factory seat rails with two extra holes drilled in them.

What i need to know is this legal to get a wof or do i need to remove them to get a wof?

Legal in MX5's I'm pretty sure, they're only illegal in cars that have rear seats and only 2 doors.

LVV Certification is not required provided that:
The seat is either an unmodified OE seat from another vehicle, or of a known and
reputable aftermarket brand; and
 the seat is unmodified, and fitted to unmodified OE seat anchorages, and
 the seatbelt anchorage or operation is not affected; and
 the seat components (including brackets, runners and rails) are compatible with
each other, ie they are either OE components from a production vehicle or of a
known and reputable aftermarket brand, and are not fitted together by welding,
and
 the relationship between seat, seat occupant, and location of the seatbelt
anchorages is not affected.

Likely needs LVV certification.

The seat rails aren't compatible with the seat, thus it has been modified in non-permitted way.

Technically you need a cert but they really arn't going to notice unless they take your seat all the way out and check it so you will be all good.

I would argue its not needed but as usual depends on the inspectors interpretation of the rules.

I have tiltable recaros in mine mounted to the original rails, my wof guy has never commented on it. He can be pretty strict too.
