Thanks mrpham! The ecu and tuning mission will come around next year, I'm aiming to have the manifolds done this year and then build the block and get her running before Christmas next year fingers crossed!mrpham wrote:Awesome build Ben. Can't wait to see it running.
How is tuning accomplished with ITB turbo setups? I know MAP is useless for a regular ITB setup, I use TPS/Alpha-N but that wouldn't work for forced induction.

Last couple of Months have been pretty quiet on the MX5 front, but in the last 2 weeks I have had a chance to get some good quality un-interupted time working on the MX5....
So Packed her up to head to her 2nd Home and our main sponsor Pitstop Westgate
This is the Start of the Turbo Manifold I made with SCH 40 Mild Steel welding butts. The Collector features Shallow angles in order to achieve the best flow possible in to the turbine housing. Along with that I also fitted a 40mm Wastegate port with Vbands for ease of installation.
This is the end result after a couple of days, not an easy job by far and I give credit to the like of Sinco who knock these out in a number hours, The TIG welding alone took me almost two days!
I might add this was my first go at making a Manifold like this and overall I am happy with what i have managed to achieve, I have started making the 2.5in Lobster back Down pipe which I add photos up when I finished making that.

I went over to lend Ben a hand tonight and we had some fun!
The first thing that greeted me in the smurf blue engine bay was this whoppper
Then you take a look around and you can see all of the time and effort that has gone into getting it to that stage
We set about getting the downpipe all tacked up and ready to have the finishing welds done
After numerous cutting
Welding
And grinding
It was taking shape
Many test fits and tweaks later, it was coming along nicely
We had a 'cuppa and some pizza to refuel, then we headed back into the warzone
Getting there~
Getting theeeeeere!!
Close up of the flange that Ben drew up in CAD and had made
And the end result
A very nice and smooth flowing downpipe for the turbo jizz!
Was an awesome evening and thanks for having me Ben, the pizza was worth it!

Working during 9-5 on a public holiday, we finished up Bens exhaust (except the tip) phew!
Clearance around the half shaft
Lobster backing to the muffler (lobster backing everywhere, should be named REDLOBSTER)
Clearance over a subframe brace
Nice and shiny diff
Tucked up nice and high, away from the road
Great job today Ben!
