This is all kinds of awesome. Did you make the fuel rail yourself?

The fuel rail is from a ex Mazda GTR, I brought it from a guy up north.

Awesome build Ben. Can't wait to see it running.

How is tuning accomplished with ITB turbo setups? I know MAP is useless for a regular ITB setup, I use TPS/Alpha-N but that wouldn't work for forced induction.

Haha good job Ben you got mrpham on the forum, he has probably the cleanest ITB build ever.

Thanks mrpham! The ecu and tuning mission will come around next year, I'm aiming to have the manifolds done this year and then build the block and get her running before Christmas next year fingers crossed!

Last couple of Months have been pretty quiet on the MX5 front, but in the last 2 weeks I have had a chance to get some good quality un-interupted time working on the MX5....

So Packed her up to head to her 2nd Home and our main sponsor Pitstop Westgate

This is the Start of the Turbo Manifold I made with SCH 40 Mild Steel welding butts. The Collector features Shallow angles in order to achieve the best flow possible in to the turbine housing. Along with that I also fitted a 40mm Wastegate port with Vbands for ease of installation.

Image

This is the end result after a couple of days, not an easy job by far and I give credit to the like of Sinco who knock these out in a number hours, The TIG welding alone took me almost two days!

I might add this was my first go at making a Manifold like this and overall I am happy with what i have managed to achieve, I have started making the 2.5in Lobster back Down pipe which I add photos up when I finished making that.

I'm going exactly the same way with mine. Are you getting any conflict with the water outlet low on the block?

I have had to modify the water pipe and face it forward as the compressor cover is too big and gets in the way, so no heater any more but doesnt bother me really....

Beautiful Ben, I'll stop in sometime so we can catch up.

Would love to get some photos of that header, it looks epic!

Looks good Ben. How much clearance is there on the bonnet? Paint scorching??

Euen, theres about 30-40mm clearance between the runners and bonnet so its close but not super close I still plan to line that side of the bonnet with Gold heat reflective material to avoid paint scorch or worse melting the Aluminium bonnet....

Then you take a look around and you can see all of the time and effort that has gone into getting it to that stage

We set about getting the downpipe all tacked up and ready to have the finishing welds done

After numerous cutting

Many test fits and tweaks later, it was coming along nicely

We had a 'cuppa and some pizza to refuel, then we headed back into the warzone

Is the turbo and mani assembly braced to the block to support the weight?

Timmo, Yes the manifold will be braced but back to the top of the exhaust flange so everything being steel they should all expand and contract at the same rate...

Nice pics. We can see there has been a s#*t load of planning designing and effort to get this far....... Looks so nice that it almost a sin to get road grime on components but thankfully thats what they are destined for.
