New facelift looks pretty snazzy, But the one to look out for will be the 4th gen.

Wow, they really made that look a lot nicer. Previous model looked a bit plain in comaprison (to me at least).

Has anyone driven one of these late model MX5's....(they look a bit lardy...) any comments?

Interesting... Do they have running/parking lights still in them? Mind you they're at the very bottom of my wishlist atm... A lot of other things to do

I'm finding the NC inspiring at the moment also... vague consideration of picking up a low-mileage used NC for 25-30k instead of waiting presumably until halfway through next year or beyond to pick up a GT86...

you could build a seriously fast NC for much less then an 86...

Oh, no doubt. The point for me is more to buy a new(er) car that I can rely on but still have fun in. It's just such a shame that most cars in recent years are and have been so boring! The appeal of the 86 to me is that it's brand new and at least semi-sensible (i.e. at least it has four seats!) but an NC is obviously far cheaper, which outweighs the lack of practicality somewhat :P

I'd rock an NC over an 86 anyday!

The 86 will be the new played out S-chassis of future generations. And i just don't really like how they've marketed it as a car that 'does sweet drifts bae'.

Seems they're trying to make a cult car, rather than just doing what they're good at and letting it become a cult car due to history and culture.

NC > GT86 all day

Yeah, I'm still undecided. The 86 is obviously more expensive (I wouldn't be buying a new NC; would only be able to afford a soft top model and I'm already hardcore hardtop with my NA) but also more practical. I'm sort of torn between wanting something more kind of grown up and sensible, so seeing how much used-but-tidy RWD sedan I could get for similar money, or going with something fun and less-practical, but also much cheaper.

This is my grumpy old man post for the month.....

I wouldn't be surprised if the 86 ends up being just another jap 2 door on the roads.

Hyundai coupes spring to mind (inknow, korean but...), they look alright but just another bog standard boring 2 door corolla/celica/s coupe with different skin and rear wheel drive if you take away all the marketing hype....."cult" cars develop, they aren't made in the PR department.....The only real development is a jap rear wheel drive for the masses after so many Front wheel drives.

Little to no power, lighter than other cars currently but still not light, light......not even cheap! Wouldn't be surprised if a SP 23 / 25 wasn't faster round a track....I almost gauruntee a 20 year old mx5 could keep up, if not be quicker (on track).

I stand to be corrected but just don't get it......

i just dont get the 86...
whenever i see a car that is a collaberation between 2 fairly different car manufacturers, all i can think of is "cheap". if there was a real good buisness model for the car then they would have built it themselves..this car is a toe in the water for both companies....and its ugly

I dig the original ae86 from my younger days of watching initial d (watching it is probably why I'm a bad driver  ). I guess that its inevitable that i'll end up with square headlights

Someone feel like editing this for me to make those square brackets? My phone doesn't have them handy

I quite like the look of the 86 personally, and I don't think it's low on power as such. 150-odd kW isn't shabby at all for a naturally aspirated 2L engine, although of course we're not talking F20C material. I know I've seen one video where a BRZ outperformed an NC by almost half a second around track, so I highly doubt an SP23 or SP25 would stand much chance. Not sure where that would leave a 20-something NA against the 86/BRZ...

Anyway, this is a thread about MX-5s so all irrelevant :D

Usually on threads like this I find someone pots up something that I just for the life of me cannot fathom how someone can think is cool.
But this thread is awesome! They are all stunning! I guess it's because the main thing everyone shares here about MX5s is having fun DRIVING them. And you can't do that 5mm suspension travel and 10 deg -camber!

This however:

Looks soooo damn cool! Anyone got more pics of it?
