Torsen LSD Group Buy

Post by Furai » Thu Jul 26, 2012 2:50 pm

Right, I know a few people who want Torsens. They are cheap from Japan($230) with axles and driveshaft. Everything you need to get em going.

Im just wondering who else is interested in doing a group buy? I cant seem to find them in NZ at all.

So whos keen?

Easy to find in NZ, cost around the 5-800 buck mark depending on who you go through.

What's the full landed cost though?

If there's anyone around that already has a 1.8 open diff and wants a torsen I am looking for a swap, or any 1.8 open diffs for sale?

I have a 1.8 dif in the car. No idea what type it is or how to tell them apart or what the advantages of either are nor why you'd need one... I'll assume it's a torsen though. I should let someone drive it at the gymkhana on sunday and tell me I suppose

Kieran and I have both made emails to a few places about them and no one has replied so we decided to go offshore and get them from there.
Cool sunroof bro...

I was reading that after I saw this post but it still doesn't mean much to me in terms of what I should be feeling when driving. I guess the easiest thing would be for me to drive a 1.6 aggressively

I have a 4.1 Torsen that could be available at the right price. It is just the diff head, no aluminium housing with it. Might be a bit tall for a 1.6 though.

So is there anything special about this one other than the price?

Yep, that is a clutch type LSD, not a Torsen. All you get is the internal bit, you need a diff head and crown wheel and pinion to put it into. By the time you add new bearings and seals and setting it up properly you can probably add another $5-600, assuming you already have a diff to put it into.

I'm interested. So it's a Mazdaspeed LSD with this OS Giken LSD stuck inside it? Also, other than being more awesome in some form or another, how does the Mazdaspeed one differ from a torsen type 1?

No, it is the Mazdaspeed version of the OS Giken diff head. It is a 2 Way Mechanical clutch type LSD diff head, part number QN10-64-A00

Still in it's box, and has the Mazdaspeed certificate with it, all in Jap.

Don't know what the ratio of it is.

I got it from a part's contact at Ford, they ordered this in for someone, who bailed out of the deal at the last moment, so I picked it up at cost (think it might actually been less than cost). The intention at the time was to use it, as I was going to do a rotary conversion on my car, but plans changed, so it has just been sitting on my shelf.

Haven't really wanted to part with it, just in case I do get a rotary MX5, but then again, it's a bit of a waste sitting around not doing anything.
