Difficulty closing top...

Post by Edney » Wed Jan 28, 2004 9:39 pm

My problems with closing the roof also have occured in colder weather. Yep -
they shrink a little.

Remember to always zip the window last but my long term solution was to simply
adjust the hinges. With some trial and error everything is just fine again!

Difficulty closing top...

Although zipping the window up after the roof has been clipped closed may be
the easiest way to get it done up; this places a huge amount of pressure on
the zip. When we first got our MX5 we were zipping and un-zipping the window
with the roof clipped in place (no-one told us otherwise), and after a few
months, the seam where the zip joined to the roof split in a number of places.
Managed to stitch it back, but had very sore fingers afterwards!

We also have the problem with our new top that it spends so little time
raised, that when we do, it is difficult to clip in place. We have adjusted
it to make it looser, but now it has a tendency to leak a little in the rain.

Difficulty closing top...

My unfailing procedure with the top is,

1. Open both doors
2 . Release both latches
3. Unzip the window and lay it flat
4. Fold the hood and close the latches

To put it up, I exactly reverse the procedure. I have never had any problems
getting it up or down, and no leaks or drafts Opening the doors, apart from
giving good access, means that the windows fit into the door seals as they are
supposed to and the seals are not being compressed as you try to force the
latch closed, no hard closing and no leaks

Hope this helps
