Hi folks,
The alarm system on my 1999 MX5 seems to have developed a
personality of its own, and goes off without warning from
time to time. I've also noticed too that the passenger door
seems to 'stick' and not lock instantly when I press the
remote lock. Is this something I can sort out myself, or
does it require a trip to the auto electrician?
Any advice much appreciated.
Thanks,
Philip

Go back to the original installer, if you know who it is. Otherwise call the
alarm distributor for a recommended dealer. If the passenger door motor is an
aftermarket unit, he should be able to sort that too.

Hi!
The mechanism on our Dick Smith central locking was pretty straightforward, so
if you take the inside panel off the door and lock/unlock a few times, you may
be able to see what it is sticking on, and tweak it to fix it. May be a loose
wire, or the rod catching on some part of the door frame. If you need to
remove the polythene plastic inside the door, warm the glue with a hairdryer
as this will loosen it and stop the plastic ripping.
As for the door "going off" without warning or reason ... maybe yours is the
female version - the more stable male one may be more predictable!
Good Luck
