Heater problems

Post by Kjellberg, Adrian » Wed Sep 17, 2003 1:20 pm

Hi All
The heater in my car is no where near as good as it was six months ago. I
crawled under the dash and stuck my head into the clutch peddle to check the
linkage control on the hot box last night, but all looks OK.

Does the Heat Control Lever control the water flow in the hot boxes radiator
OR, the air flow through the hot box?
What is the best way to flush the heating radiator, preferably without
ripping the entire dash off to get it out?

Thanks
Adrian

air flow thru the hot box.

The hoses going from the back of the head thru the
firewall to the heater should be fairly hot if you
give them a squeeze after warming the car up.

Normally people have too much heat, not too little !

Thanks. I guess I'll have to pull the box out if the hoses are hot. The
engine heats up fine and has a new thermostat and coolant ( less than 6
months old )

hmm... are you saying that your heater isn't as good
as 6 mths ago *and* your thermostat was done then ..?

looks like a smoking gun from here ... ;)

I've noticed that while the temp gauge takes 4-5
minutes to reach the 11 o'clock position, it doesn't
fully warm up the coolant for another few minutes.
IOW, "normal" on the temp gauge is anything between
about 65-100 C. (cross-referenced with Link temp
sensor)

Good point. I don't tend to notice the performance of the heater as I dress
up warm and the wind blows away any heat in the car.
The mechanic was replacing my cam belt and said the thermostat was upside
down. Which way does it go? I might pop the pump top and have a look. Spring
down? Or I need a hotter thermostat.
