Just my 2 cents (euro that is, about 4 cent NZ) worth:
before deciding on a car alarm check out -
A. The statistics of MX5s stolen in NZ
B. The difference in insurance cost between having an alarm installed
and no alarm in the car.

That's true comment for MX5's. But even before I worked for Mongoose, I fitted
an alarm because I don't want scumbags attacking my car and, touch wood, it
hasn't happened.

Being careful, and I suppose very lucky, I have never had a car stolen or
damaged, but I would never drive an un-insured car, and to get that
insurance, at any cost, from my insurer of choice, requires an alarm. As Lou
says, if you are going to do it, then it costs as much to do it badly as it
does to do it well, no choice there really!

Car alarms
Being an Electrician and also having previously been
in the car audio competition scene, i can say that the
standard of car alarm installs i have seen has been
disgusting. If i wired a house the way some of these
guys wired my alarms id be prosecuted. My (non
standards approved) CODE alarm system installed by
myself has much better protection and stealth wiring than the others ive seen.
Looks like ill be getting one of those DEI dual zone
microwaves, seems like a good buy at around NZ$110.
thanks Guys.

You're absolutely right, hopefully the upcoming registration of installers
will improve matters. Cowboy installers are one reason why I have no
compunction about recommending reliable installers to club members.
