how to gain a NZ racing license

Hi there Daniel,
There are 2 sorts of racing licences generally available, the first is for
dual sprints and can just be applied for and off course you will need to hand
over many dollars. For a full racing licence you do need to sit a test. If you
have not done any racing I would recommend you start off with the dual
sprints. Not sure where you are based - but lower Nth Island has a good series
the Surgery InterMarque Sprints .. at Manfield where you can find your feet.
MNZ has a web site www.motorsport.org.nz and an email
admin@motorsport.org.nz
Feel free to ask us any further questions you may have

Hi Daniel,

Yes there is information on the web. You need to go to
http://www.motorsport.org.nz/ and check out the on-line version of the
Motorsport manual, which will be in PDF format so you will need Adobe
Acrobat to read it. The manual can be found by clicking on the 'Regulations'
link.

I'm not sure, but I think you need to be a member of a MANZ affiliated car
club (there is a list of valid clubs on the same site).

The manual will tell you all about how to get a license, and the same site
will have an application and medical declaration form you can fill in. The
club you become a member of should have a Motorsport New Zealand certified
examiner, so after you study the relevant sections of the manual you just go
see them to sit the test and an eye site/colour blindness test.

I don't have a race license, but I did obtain my National Rally license
recently and the test was no sweat, I only spent a couple of nights reading
through the Rallying/National Sporting Code appendices and I passed. The
test I sat was open book for most of it anyway, so as long as you know where
to find things it's easy.

Of course you'll have pay the licensing fee as well, but that should $150 or
less - I'm not sure of the exact figure. The application form will list it.
