Car Alarm

Post by krice » Thu Aug 28, 2003 9:14 pm

I need to get an alarm fitted to my MX5 ASAP. Can anyone advise where they have had a good experience in Akl with car alarms, what they have had fitted and how well it works? Have always liked Alpine but open to anything.
Many thanks

I have an Alpine too. But when it dies, there's almost no parts supply now.
At the risk of plugging my own product, check out the new Mongoose M80 range.
Insurance certified, triple immobiliser, certified 2 stage microwave, (this is
a must for a convertible). Water resistant remotes. Battery back-up siren.
While it's currently certified to the latest immobiliser standard, it's also
being certrified for the new alarm standard. This will make it the highest
rated system at present in NZ.
Recommended retail is $649.00 installed inc. GST.
If you shop around you may even do better on price.

Check with your insurance co, they may give you a
break if the alarm meets certain alarm and immobiliser
standards.

I went with a Dynatron in the end, (Mongoose wasn't
certified at that time) no problems. Microwave sensor
setup is only so-so. You get the "cool blue" LED tho
:p

Used to have an Alpine and loved it, but they are no
longer in the market!

Car Alarm

I got a Mongoose installed but not sure it's fitted properly - occasionally
when the car has been driven hard it keeps doing off until the car has
cooled down a bit. Be interested if someone could advise who in Auckland
(pref North Shore) could have a look at it. Not impressed by the original
guy I used.

The one thing I would advise is to be careful where you put the little
light - mine was put at the front of the transmission tunnel box and really
digs into my arm if I rest it there.

Cheers

im not in auckland but i have a dynatron alarm fitted, its really good, they
also fitted keyless entry for me. and my insurance company will waive the
excess if it gets stolen, (apparently if i can prove it was armed at the
time...kinda leaves that to interpretation doesnt it.)

Colin at Automotive Security (5/21 Poland Road, Glenfield) has fitted and maintained Mongoose Alarms on three of my cars over the last 10 years and has provided very good service. His number is 377 7716.

Lou this is verging on sales... which I thought the list forbade. Information
is great, but active selling is not. I know there is another list member who
is a representative for Dynatron and he is cautious about being too obvious in
his information... and avoids selling on the list...

Not being in Auckland, i can't recommend an installer.

However, when i was fixing up my MX5, the airbag control unit (being
right in
the middle of the dashboard) required the whole dash to be removed. It gave
me an excellent excuse to install a killer alarm system. I ended up
with the top
of the line uniden. 1000zxy or something. I installed the siren so it
sits at
the drivers feet and aims straight at them. The microwave sensor sits
underneath
the centre console, between the 2 seats. The shock sensor is bolted to
the chassis
by the gearbox. I've used unidens for years, never had any trouble with
them.

The immobiliser will always be armed, it cuts in 30 - 40 secs after ign off.
Insurance co's wanted this feature to ensure the car's always protected.

I take your point, but I'm not selling direct. We're wholesalers not
retailers. I'm recommending a 3rd party.
