K&N Filters.. and disaster narrowly avoided....

Post by Graeme Naisbitt » Thu Aug 28, 2003 7:07 pm

Ok, feeling a bit foolish here... I fitted a POD on mine last year and made
a cool box for it to fit into. I didn't have enough metal left to make a
permanent mounting bracket for the POD Assembly, so as a temporary measure I
used some Ty-wraps to hold it in place. All this talk about K&N's reminded
me that it was probably time to do the oil/filter change etc and I got some
Filter oil too.

Anyway, oil change was a breeze this time (last time somebody hadn't
realised the meaning of hand tight), and I moved onto the POD.

Undid the clip and took the filter off, and noticed a nut rattling around in
the bottom of the filter! One of the mounting nuts had loosened no doubt
due to excess vibration caused by my temporary measure coupled with the fact
that I had no spring washers on them! Not even going to think of the damage
it could have caused if sucked through the airmeter and into the head!

Ok, can somebody PLEASE remind me on Saturday to make a permanent bracket
for this thing!!!
