redline trans oil

Post by Phil McArthur » Wed Aug 27, 2003 5:27 pm

I'm going to change my gearbox/ diff/ turret oil as per the great miata.net
pictorial guide. I wonder if I should track down the Redline oil which seems
to be rated as 'the best'. When I rang Segedins and Repco they both said it
was 'racing' oil, and they didn't stock it. One guy said no trans oil was
purely synthetic, they were all blends- does this sound right? My MX is a
stock 93 1600, certainly no racer. What would the respected mechanical gurus
out there (you know who you are!) recommend for gear oil?
Thanks,

Phil.

hi Phil,

Kendall Racing Supplies on Auckland's sunny North
Shore has RedLine ... ~$30/qt last time I looked.

TurboTinker runs the Redline MTL (75w-90), but will
try the heavier Redline MT (80w-90) next time. Or
Amsoil.

Something less "visceral" ;)

cheers,
Jeff

I've had Redline MTL in my transmission, and I honestly noticed very little
improvement over whatever was in before... and since then, I've got Castrol
VMX (not a synth) and it seems pretty much the same to me...

Red '90. Many n/a mods and Link ECU

I've used Castrol syn and Amsoil syn - better than Castrol. Kendall Racing
has Redline products.
