Can anyone direct me to an article which advises how to adjust the hood
fastenings at the front in terms simple enough for the un-handyman? I
discovered water on the passenger seat when I got back to the car after a
business breakfast this morning. I was quite surprised as it has never leaked
before but on reflection, in the almost-year I have owned it I don't think I
have parked it outside in the rain before! Yes, I know it is a thoroughly
spoiled MX5 but I love it...

Different perceptions: I recently went to a social event with a former
colleague I hadn't seen for years. I took the MX5, he rolled up in a new
Mercedes-Benz 600. My car would almost have fitted in his boot. We talked
cars, of course, and he asked how old mine was. '1997,' I replied. 'Wow,' he
said, 'Did you restore it yourself?'

Only someone who can afford new Mercedes would think a 6 year old car would
normally need restoring, surely?

I have also recently offended a friend who has bought a Porsche Cayenne by
describing it as looking like a Porsche 996 top on a Honda RAV bottom.
Apparently it drives better than it looks...

Hi Simon, depends on where the leak is - front rubbers or side rubbers. To adjust the front, under the latch's on the inside and you will see an adjuster that has a spring clip holding it in place. Release the spring clip and turn the screw to tighten - trial and error - but dont have too tight. If side rubbers, they can be moved in the channels to tighten up the joints. A good trick is also to put some vaseline on the surfaces of the rubbers where they meet to make abetter seal when softop is up.

When mine leaked onto the seat, I found it was the side seals that needed
adjusting. Tightening the front clamps didn't help.

I have the Miata workshop manual which explains the adjustment with pics. Happy to photocopy for you or if you're going on Sunday, could bring it along. Haven't been to a club day before so I'll be the one standing in the corner talking to my wife looking sheepish!
