Mags?

Post by krice » Sun Aug 03, 2003 9:42 pm

Searched the list but not a lot of info on mags in the past. My last posting here was very helpful so here goes again. I want to replace the standard 14" on my '94 with 15". Searching around it seems important to keep the weight down i.e under 15lb per mag so as not to compromise performance and ride quality? Can anyone recommend anything they have used that works and looks good? Appreciate your comments. Thanks.

Mags?

Good question, I've been looking around as well. I can't find any
lightweight wheels in the Mag shops in Auckland. What make's it harder is
that nobody ever knows the weights of any of the wheels they sell. I've
been using www.good-win-racing.com as a reference because they list wheel
weights. The Enkei RPF1 which is only 9.8lbs in a 15", is available in
NZ, but only in 17" . I haven't found anyone that sells any the other
wheels over here. Has anyone ever seen Konig wheels for sale in NZ?

The Pits!/Pneumatico in Beach Rd , Akl sells the Volk
Racing wheels ($$$) ... also around 9 lbs for 15"
wheels.

Other light wheels that come to mind are Mazda MX5
OEM, Racing Hart CP-035, Lenso and Speedy wheels (see
'em at mx5mania.com.au) ... and there's more at
wheelweights.net .

I have a set of digital scales if anyone wants to
weigh their wheels with *digital precision* :D !! (GF
thinks I bought it to weigh myself, ha!)

Mags?

What really gets me is the sales people in some of the stores out there. a while ago i was looking for some mags, and i had heard about the weight issue so i as well was looking for lightweight mags, try telling this to the salesman! He politly informed me i was mad and there was no way my car would be any different with heavier mags.

Why is it so hard to get good advice?
I would also love to get better mags so some good advice would be great maybe as well on the sway bar front...

Mags?

Post by Gary Morrison » Tue Aug 05, 2003 11:19 am

I asked this question a couple of years ago with no local result. I was going
to buy a set of Kosei Racing from the US and Ocean freight them, in the event
a local performance shop spotted a set in a Japanese wheel clearance list they
get and I had them import those. If there are a few of you wanting wheels you
should get together and buy from one US source (Brian Goodwin would probably
be happy to help) and have them Ocean freighted together. The freight cost
when shared will be modest.
