Speeding tickets

I got one for 75 in a 50 zone late at night on a deserted road on a steep
downhill stretch --- the SOB scanned every inch of my car looking for
additional reasons to "run up the revenue".

When the cop asked me how fast I thought I was going I said about 60. He
stated I was doing 75 (assume he must have used radar) and the SOB gave me
a ticket for that speed.

Has anyone confronted this issue and gone to court on it. Does anyone know
a strategy to confront this that doesn't require an attorney?

It's about a month an I need to respond in some way.

PS: how does the point system work down here --- that is my concern more
than the money as I received another speeding ticket last April 02 Regards

It certainly pays to have contacts in the police force. A colleague of my wife's, who just happens to be an ex-detective, was recently caught speeding and the accumulated demerit points would have meant a loss of licence for 12 months. Not wanting to lose her licence she took it to court. Through some contacts in the force she was able to find out that the officer who nabbed her was patrolling outside of his allocated area, had caught her 10 minutes after his shift was supposed to end (gotta fill the quota somehow eh!), and that some paperwork relating to the speed radar wasn't filled out after his shift ended (as per regulations). It was also interesting to note that for the court hearing the police were not allowed to make any mention of her previous speeding offences, so she was free to imply to the judge that she was a first time offender. I haven't heard the final outcome of the case yet, but I'd be surprised if she didn't get off.

ps - I rate Toyo T1S tyres quite highly, though I don't know if they make them to fit the standard wheel size (I've got 17's)

You have admitted speeding, 60 km/h, your only hope now is to defend the
matter on other grounds. This will be almost futile without a brief, unless
you have in depth knowledge of the speed checking device and/or Police
procedures. Even then, most JP's that hear these cases would believe a cop if
he said day was night.
2 minor speeding tickets in a year is still safe, pointswise.

When I was in the same boat I stuck a little fluorescent needle at 50 and
100 on my speedo with the date my points expired underneath - constant
reminder to be good.
