Turbo Questions

Post by VIKING RACING » Mon Jun 23, 2003 6:07 pm

Hi Everyone
Being of the old school there performance on cars was improved by porting the
head, changing the cams and adding a couple off Weber 45 carbs. but after
costing above items (expensive) I had to giveup on this, and got myself a
hairdryer (Turbo) a 2nd hand engine from Japan with a HKS turbokit.
Unfortunately the black box that come with kit disappeared somewhere on the
way so I will start off by running only 5psi and the ingnition on 6deg.
The first question is
Together with the engine came a black box 80x60x60 marked GREDDY. 2 hoses, one
connected to the wastegate the other to the turbo, inside it is 2 solenoid
valves and a wire is coming out.
Could this be a remote control to set the turbo pressure?
2nd question is about the static auxilliary fuel regulator most kits come
with, when i read the description of the function of them it sounds like it is
just the same thing like putting a G-clamp on the returnhose to the petrol
tank, am I right?
So if anyone can help me out let me know

The Black box with Greddy on it will be the solenoid unit for a Profec B or A
spec boost controller. Basicaly I would say its useless to you without the
contoll module that goes inside the car as I don't think you can buy the two
seperately.

hi John

those adjustable fuel pressure regulators (AFPR) let
you raise fuel pressure as a function of boost.
Typically something like 6:1 so that at 6psi boost you
have an additional (6 x 6 =) 36psi of fuel pressure on
top of your base pressure (43 psi). Total fuel
pressure is then 36+43= 77psi. Think I got that
right.

Of course if you used a MiataLink you'd just need
bigger injectors, and could probably reuse your fancy
Greddy wastegate solenoid... plus be able to grossly
and finely tweak fuel and timing :)

you've read these I trust ?
