After about 7 years the law finally picked on me yesterday. It was my
own fault as I was doing 64k in a 50k area (through Pukerua Bay on SH1
for those in Wellington) and I got pulled over. However I had a
conversation with the cop about the stick on plate, and although he
issued me with a notice for it, he gave me an "optional compliance offer"
This gives 14 days to fit the authorised plate and get it confirmed at a
police station (gee I feel like a criminal). So next time you are stopped
for a stick on plate, be nice to the guy, and ask for the "compliance
offer." Gary

64 in a 50 zone and a stick on plate! You're lucky you weren't summarily
executed at the roadside.
