Minties Moment

Post by Grant » Thu Feb 13, 2003 7:06 pm

Since my husband is too kind (and scared) to tell you all what I did the
other day I thought I would confess.
I took the MX5 into town and parked as close to the supermarket wall as I
could get in a vain attempt to keep the sun off the black leather.
Off I went to do my shopping.
Returned 45 minutes later - no car.
Looked again - no car
How was I going to tell my husband someone had stolen his birthday present!!
Into the supermarket, heart racing, to report the theft. They immediately
rang the police who promptly started asking the usual questions.
While this was going on, one of the assistants went outside and returned a
few moments later to ask if my numberplate was UR7269.
"Yes" I replied.
"Well," she said, "It is out in the carpark."
"Brilliant! You mean someone has returned it?"
"It is out where you said you parked it" came the reply.
Telling the police not to worry, we thought we had recovered the stolen
vehicle, she took me out to the car park and, sure enough, there the car
was - several parks down from where I thought I had put it. I had parked on
the other side of the trolley bay to what I remembered and a long
stationwagon was parked beside it. I had parked it so close to the gutter
you couldn't see it until you were almost opposite.
How embarrassing!!! They all laughed and said it was better to be
embarrassed than to have actually had it stolen after all.
I later went to the police station to apologise for my mistake and thought
they might like to put a face to the idiot. Every time I see a cop I think
they are laughing at me!!
Two days later I was in the same supermarket going through the checkout when
a friend came up beside me and said he hoped I could find the car this time.
I remarked to the checkout girl that he was teasing because I had reported
my car stolen from here the other day when it was, in fact, just a bit
further down the row. She laughed and said "Oh yes, I heard about that!"
As I left work yesterday the boss muttered "I hope you can find your car!"
I don't think I will ever live this down :-(
