exhaust questions ...

Post by jeff » Tue Feb 11, 2003 8:48 pm

hi all

(since it's so quiet in here lately)

anyone know if there's much weight savings to be had
with stainless exhaust pipe vs steel ? For once I
can't get the answer from google.com !

In other exciting news, I disconnected my rear muffler
briefly - just to hear for myself what it's like.
It's like, rally-car noisy! (NB: there's a turbo in
there too, I thought it might be enough) Immediately
found myself being stalked by a police car. I have
decided to reconnect the muffler :p

Just happened to be on the phone to a mechanic when this message came
through. He reckons it will be slightly lighter (the stainless one) as the
stainless ones generally are slightly thinner. Top quality (i.e. expensive)
would probably work out the same. Whatever, he didn't consider the weight
difference to be much at all.

any weight loss is nullified when the big shiny chrome extension gets welded
on to the end!

...says the guy with big shiny chrome wheels ;)

I'll post here for you skeptics if/when I complete my current project "adding lightness - Stage II" ! (could be a while, I'm pretty slack)
