Dents Day

Post by Simon Lord » Sun Jan 19, 2003 10:04 pm

Thanks to all who turned up yesterday and made the Dents Day such a success -
a couple of photos are attached. Keith treated seven MX5's, one Mercedes, a
Subaru and a Mitsi, and I think everyone went away satisfied. I have to agree
that what he did to Bill's front wing was little short of miraculous.

This was my first meeting with other MX5 owners and I would like to say thanks
to everyone. It was a pleasure to welcome you all to our home - what a nice
friendly bunch you are. I am looking forward to meeting everyone else on club
events in the future.

Ken's suggestion that we should make Dents Day an annual event is a good one.
If we gave people a time bracket it would ensure reduced waiting time (not
that anyone seemed to mind) and Keith does 20-30 cars in a day quite
routinely. He told me later he holds the Australasian record in the franchise.
Several car yards in Christchurch just give him carte blanche to walk on to
their yard, treat anything he spots and then present them with the bill, which
is quite a reputation to have.

The biggest problem for guys like Keith is that handling private jobs usually
takes too much time to organise and travel to compared to walking on to a car
yard and doing 10 cars in one go. Group days like yesterday are therefore
ideal both for him and for individual owners like us. Thinking further about
it, there are a few other mobile services which I think might be offered on a
similar basis. Another two of my clients who might be helpful are The Touch Up
Guys (paint touch up) and VPL Repairs (vinyl, plastic and leather repairs).
Does anyone know of someone who might treat small amounts of rust on a similar
basis?

Such days don't need to be hosted at our place if people find it too far to
travel, though I am very happy to do the same again.

Any thoughts?

It is so nice to go in to the garage now with no annoying dents on the car.
Next nice thing would be some Touch Up painting.
I think it was a nice drive to your place Simon(Erik loved the train ride
after) so it was a Sat. to remember.

Glad it was worthwhile - yes, I agree with you about the Touch Up. I'll have a
chat with my friend there and see if he thinks it would be worthwhile. The
train ride is lovely at Whangaparaoa - has Erik done the one at Monterey Park
too? The other trip our boy used to enjoy when he was small was to the
'Friends of Thomas' day at Glenbrook, when they put faces on all the real life
engines and have someone dressed up as the Fat Controller. They usually do one
a year - next one is on 15/16 March according to their website at
http://www.railfan.org.nz/

Cheers
