Eunos Roadster badge colour, rain and tyres

Post by Grant » Mon Jan 13, 2003 10:25 pm

Just wondering about the colour of the Roadster and Eunos badges on the rear
of my 1992 V-spec BRG. Mine has red lettering while any others I have seen
are black. Is this normal? Fairly minor point but I am curious.
The Marlborough Club had its monthly run on Sunday. The club has had four
outings now, and each time it has RAINED!!! We are considering selling the
services of the club to local drought stricken farmers. All they have to do
is offer a flat paddock for use by the club and we will bring the rain.
The club run was from Blenheim to Kaikoura, with lunch at the Donegal House
Irish Pub just north of Kaikoura. This was a big mistake! Our organiser rang
the pub earlier in the week to check they could handle a group of 28 that we
expected to turn up. They said that was OK and they would make up some
platters and get extra staff on as well. They were told not to make up the
platters as people mightn't want them. On arrival we checked the menu and
then the waitress came out with 14 platters (at a very expensive $30.00
each). We said we didn't order them and wanted to order from the menu. We
were told in no uncertain terms that the platters were ordered and that they
couldn't provide meals from the menu for the numbers that turned up! It was
suggested we wouldn't pay, so the owner countered that with threatening to
call the police because we wouldn't pay. We sat through a very
unsatisfactory meal of ok quality but poor selection. I wouldn't normally
pay half the asking price for what we got. The owner has a lot to learn
about keeping his customers happy. Have since heard of very poor service to
other groups as well. This club certainly won't return.
I've now been running on a set of Bridgestone GIII (standard size) tyres and
am very happy with them. Much quieter and better ride than the Kumhos I had
before, plus they are plenty grippy enough for my driving.
One of the members on the Sunday run has a set of Optima (made in China)
tyres on their car. They were complaining of the extremely poor grip in the
wet and general instability. We swapped cars for a few km's and it was most
enlightening. Those tyres are definitely not reccommended and are positively
dangerous. The car felt as if it was oversteering on any corner and the rear
let go with the slightest provocation. The Bridgestones on mine felt as if
the road was still dry, no sign of losing grip at all. Anybody know anything
about these tyres? I assume they were quite cheap, but don't know.

Eunos Roadster badge colour, rain and tyres

Mazda changed the colour from black to red in 93 as a useful way of
identifying that the car was a 1.8 rather than a 1.6. In 95 the colour was
changed to green to show that the car had the further developed 1.8 engine.
If you car is a 92 1.6 then the badge should be black not red, it must have
been changed at some stage and is not correct colour for that model.

Hope you have better luck with the next club run.

Cheers from Hamilton.

Why did you stay and eat? It wasn't a Police matter and it's your word against
theirs. Now they've made their rip-off profit and don't care if they don't see
you again anyway.

Quite right, Lou. We decided to stay as it would have been a problem fitting
all of us in somewhere else at the time. Lunchtime in Kaikoura is always very
busy. We agree it wasn't a police matter but we weren't prepared to take it
further at the time. As we told him though, we will tell all we can that we
would not reccomend the establishment to anybody and that there will be
reports published in various newsletters etc (including on the internet) about
his 'service'.
On our previous run to Pelorus Bridge (half way between Blenheim and Nelson),
the shopkeeper there gave us the use of their verandha to have our lunch
(which we had brought with us) and was very friendly. This place is always a
reccomended stop.

Good point, these people seem to behave like this if they think they have a
captive market. Sounds like the 'Slip Inn' pub in Birkenhead, a friends
singlet was not acceptable to the manager although a guy wearing a tank top
was OK. This was on a hot Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately for the manager,
these people have a local hair salon with over a 1000 clients. guess what
they'll all be told about the pub?
