new clutch

Post by scott » Wed Jan 08, 2003 9:02 pm

I'm looking for a new clutch as mine is on it's way out in the 'not to
distant future' and was wondering what the best option would be. I'm
planning on doing some engine mods, turbo perhaps and seeing as how I
have to replace my clutch anyway, I wanted some opinion as to what kind
of clutch to get. Are there some good 'performance' clutch's out there?
I was planning on taking it in to be serviced getting the clutch and the
timing belt replaced and doing the rest myself.

What do the wise and omnipotent members of the list think?

A price would be good but I'll not have much money initially, just
enough for the clutch really.
How expensive are the super chargers? I got the impression that they
were hellishly expensive (in comparison to the car) to get working
nicely, at least when compared to the turbo option.

Cheapest option would be an upgraded pressure plate.
The stock clutch seems OK up to about 5-6 psi
though...

I'll be getting a 1.8 chromoly flywheel machined up
v.soon if anyone wants one done at the same time.

I thought that superchargers were relatively cheap due
to the lower power levels - clutch, injectors,
computer, cooling, brakes are optional, rather than
mandatory!

The centreforce unit is excellent, despite what the yanks say. I've had mine
in for 4 years now, no probs even with the blower on.

If your clutch is knackered, I have 2 used 1.6 ones, either of which you can
have. One was changed because it couldn't take the blower output, the other
was on a used engine I bought. Both should be fine on a NA motor.
