MX5 with loud clicking noise from front when brake applied

Post by Paul Broomhall » Sat Mar 29, 2003 9:46 am

Has anyone got an answer to the following.

I have a 1989 MX5 that has just started making a load clicking noise from the
front when the brake is applied. Any ideas of what it can be.

Check your caliper slider bolts,(upper and lower) most
likely that the lubricant on the pins is old. clean
and relube with brake caliper grease. Also Check out
your pad clips and springs. Mine moved about and the
inner pad came "loose" causing it to click when brakes
were applied. The clips im talking about are at the top
and the bottom of the pads where the "tab" bit is.
Hope this helps.

weeellll... it'll be less than $3k! :) More like
$300-$1500 depending on your age, location, car,
alarm, and insurance history. Don't forget to bring
proof for that last one.

PS - there was a decent discussion about this a while ago... search here (

"insurance spreadsheet"

cheers,
Jeff

zorruno,
Sorry, we are not allowed to send attachment are we?

Below is a copy of the form being used by the MREC in Wellington.

Date

Rules Team
Land Transport Safety Authority
PO Box 2840
Wellington

Submission to Land Transport Rule: Vehicle Equipment (Rule 32017) Vehicle
Equipment:

2.7 Exhaust Systems
2.7 (4) The level of noise emitted from an exhaust system that is not the
motor
vehicle manufacturerbs original equipment must be less than, or similar to,
that from the original equipment exhaust system.

Submission:
We recommend the Vehicle Equipment Rule 32017 2.7 (4) be amended to
incorporate both,
o7 A stationary vehicle noise level of 95decibals for Motor Vehicles (being a
motor car, van or light truck)
having a gross vehicle weight of 3500kg or less.
o7 The Australian Design Rules (ADR) 28/01 stationary vehicle test method for
checking the vehicles
compliance with a 95db(A) limit.

Reason for Submission:
The rule as written provides no clearly defined test method or decibel
level.
Vehicle owners would be subjected to a test method which relies entirely on
the perception
of the person undertaking the test as to what is a satisfactory noise level
for a vehicle.
Many other countries already have a 95db(A)-exhaust noise limit.
The stationary test method in ADR28/01 provides a clearly defined method for
testing vehicles to a 95db(A) limit.
Many vehicles such as Motorsport New Zealand competitors currently have to
comply with a 95db(A)-exhaust noise limit.
We believe this amendment would then provide a clearly established test
method and decibel limit for both original
equipment and aftermarket exhaust systems to be complied against.

Yours sincerely

back with a mark out of 10

So what do you give for missing apostrophes in contracted words and no 'a'
in 'dollars'?

Well that ones not too bad in comparison to the usual ones, I'd give it a
5/10 for comprehension - could try harder. I usually leave the corrections
to the missus who is a spelling/grammar nazi...

What about a missing capital W at the start of a sentance, full stop at the end, and is 'spellings' a valid word?

You do realise, David, that it is not correct to start a sentence (let alone
a paragraph) with a hyphen?

This is getting silly and not nearly as much fun as the Iso Grifo memorata.
My excuse is that I'm a publisher!

Well the finest wok money can buy, according to Chef Richard, is 'The Great
Wok of China'. This comes with free kitchen knives, a chan (which is
chinese for spatulla), and one of those wire things to get your chips out
with. Quick hurry now, if you order this item within the next 10 minutes,
we'll throw in a set of steak knives. All of this for only 3 easy payments
of $49.95!!!
