RE-Cam Belts and Water Pumps.

Post by poison » Wed Dec 15, 2004 3:20 pm

Thanks everyone who offered there advice on cam belts and
water pumps.

I've decided to go with City Garage for the cam belt and
waterpump replacement. I was going to go to Rotary Power on
the shore, but when I rang to discuss the short nosed crank
issue and he said no problem you just use a longer
bolt so I kinda lost faith there. So I rang the City
garage guy and he seemed to know all about it. Id rather
pay that bit more (although with our club discount his
labour rate is quite reasonable). Ill post again with
costs once the job is done, mind you Ive bought most of
the bits already, water pump (see below), cam-belt, woodruff
key and new bolt (from Mazda).

Water pumps, I went with Auto Clutch, we get a great club
discount there, so cost a little under $110.00, made in
Japan and you can clearly see its good quality. In fact
you can see where theyve ground off the logo (most likely
the Mazda logo). Also the guy there was really helpful and
told me a bunch of stuff about different clutch materials
they had on display there. A good place to buy!

I rang Loctite and they recommended 609 for the pulley to
shaft, saying to coat both surfaces and all over the
woodruff key too. Best place to buy was this SKF bearings as
they had the small 10mm bottles.

Cheers
